I reserved the church for the whole day on the 3rd so after Tanner's lunch the Headrick side of the family had a little get together because Jason's mom was able to be in town. It was fun to let the cousins play together and good to visit with Jason's sisters and brother. We just let the kids run and play and the adults visited. Jason's mom treated us to some Cafe Rio for dinner.
Our niece Emily had broken her arm earlier in the month and I was talking to her dad commenting that we had been lucky and hadn't had any broken bones or even stitches. Boy I really shouldn't have said anything!! Andrea had taken Cameron to her house to give him a nap, since he had a bad cold and croup. He woke up and she brought him back to the church. I was trying to keep him away from the other kids so we then headed home to change out of his church clothes and got him a few of his cars to play with. We made it back to the church and within 10 minutes he came running into the gym crying with blood all over his face. I still don't know exactly what happened but the theory was that he either got hit by a door opening, or ran into a door. Unfortunately we had to head to the ER and Cam had to get 6 stitches on his forehead.
Luckily we didn't have to wait too long at the ER, and they got him in. He was very upset and didn't want anything on his head. He was angry that he had to have a wrist bracelet, and the admitting nurse said that most likely he would have to be sedated because he was so agitated. He calmed down until we had to put the numbing solution on his forhead for 1/2 an hour. I didn't do well and he got it off. Jason took over and we were able to keep it on. But we debated whether or not to sedate him, I had my doubts but Jason really didn't want to have to so we tried to do it without. The nurses wrapped him in a sheet and he was SO angry. Screaming in his hoarse voice no, no, no. His cry was so sad, more like a little wimper it actually was so cute. They had to hold his head and he was so sad. We were trying everything to keep him calm to avoid the sedation, and I finally thought to sing his favorite song as a baby...it goes like this.
How I love my little Cameron, sweet and precious little Cameron. How I love my little Cameron honest to goodness I do. Sleep tight, sandman a coming in to see you, mighty, mighty, soon and if you don't cry, he'll be coming by with a great big lollipop moon.
We sang it about 3 times and he fell asleep. It was kind of funny because there he was screaming and then Jason and I are singing...mind you we don't have the best singing voices but everyone at the desk outside our room was watching the whole thing. He got so relaxed and quiet so quickly it was amazing. The doctor that stitched him up teased us and said that when he got off if he had a hard time falling asleep he would call us and we could sing him to sleep too.
He woke up as soon as we got to the car, got him a slush and was good to go! I guess not too bad for our first ER visit. Just hope that we don't have to go anytime soon!!
